My husband and I have spent years sailing on boats around the islands of Moreton Bay off Brisbane where there are many Turtles. We have had turtles just popping up and swimming along as we sail by; we have had turtles who pop up right beside us when we are at anchor. They usually take one look then dive only to resurface again for another look a few moments later. Turtles are vulnerable because they are often hit by boats or they swallow plastic bags mistaking them for jellyfish which are part of their diet.
It was fun using a new water stencil with modelling paste to create the water surface highlights above the Turtle in this artwork. Texture has also been applied to the Turtles body using a spoon.
A percentage of sales of Turtle Surfing prints goes to Great Barrier Reef Legacy which addresses the urgent need to secure the long-term survival of the Great Barrier Reef and coral reefs world-wide.
