There is something very special about Kookaburras. I love their soft fluffy plumage and beautiful big eyes which have a cheeky look to them. They have the most raucous call which sounds like belly laughter and may be the first sound you hear, often at dawn, as you awaken to a bright new day. We once had one we christened ‘Patch’ because he was blind in one eye and half his beak was missing. He would come everyday to be fed and we felt we were helping him survive until we learned that he went around the whole neighborhood and had been known to steal whole steaks off barbeques.
