A Pet's Unconditional Love
I have loved animals for as log as I can remember. All the way through school all I wanted to be when I grew up was a Vet so that I could help animals in pain.
One of the hardest things I have ever had to do in life was take our beloved cat “Frisky” to the vet because he had kidney failure. The last thing I remember was the vet carrying him away while he stretched his paws out to me. It was devastating.Animals, particularly dogs are so loyal to their owners and love them unconditionally. There are some very wicked humans on this planet who are very cruel to animals.
So every artwork and pet portrait commission I produce has been created with love, care and deep feeling. Being of exuberant character I love embellishing my artworks with texture, glitter, gold leaf and colour which gives them that unique “Wow” factor.

Animals Eat Flowers
Don't feed flowers to your pet - dogs and cats though, as some flowers are poisonous and highly toxic. We once had a cat who couldn't resist jumping up onto the kitchen bench to have a good munch on freshly bought shallots. Goodness knows why? He must have loved the smell! Shallots may be toxic to cats though so we had to take them away from him. I know shallots are not flowers.!! :) -
Pygmy Possums Are Endangered
It is only very recently that I learned of the existence of Pygmy Possums. I had no idea that a possum so small existed.
There is a Banksia plant called a Pygmy Possum because it is a dwarf version of of the ‘ Old Man Banksia’ which is featured in the children’s book Possum Magic by Australian Author May Gibbs. -

Fine Art Reproductions NOT Prints.
Having learned that I should be using the words Fine Art Reproductions instead of Prints I have spent a great deal of time this week going through my whole website making required changes.
Can’t wait to get back to my easel to splash a bit of colourful paint around and stencil a bit of exciting texture. I want my wildlife creatures to growl at you out of my paintings.

Wondering how to Frame your Print?
All artworks on paper must be framed behind glass to protect them from the environment. Humidity, sunlight, dust, and pests like silverfish can damage artworks on paper unless they are protected.
Pastel artworks framed behind glass have endured since the 16th century so if you frame your print it should last more than a lifetime.

Why I Love Being An Artist
Being creative is a type of growth as I learn something new from every artwork I produce. Perhaps it makes me feel a little powerful to be in control of how a painting is going to look. Ha ha. Yes, I am a control freak. However, I also believe that we all need to live life to the fullest and I find creating something new, from scratch is a lot of fun. It is exciting.

My Creative Inspiration
My love of literature inspires me to write poetry so I have begun to write poems to go with each painting I create some of which you may already read on this website.
Now that I have just finished a painting of a Unicorn for my next grandchild’s nursery, I am excited about my next creation. Will it be a whale, wombat, possum, kangaroo, or an emu?

The Reason Why the Focus of my Art is Portraits That Bite
In these current times of a worldwide pandemic, global warming plus war in some parts of the world I think it is refreshing to escape to the beauty of our natural countryside and appreciate the wildlife it supports. As humans we need to have a focus on preserving our planet and not just using its resources until nothing remains.
Thus the focus of my art is: - Our beautiful planet Earth and its native creatures.

Portraits That Bite First Blog
I am currently painting a Unicorn portrait for my imminent third grandchild. High quality archival prints will be available for purchase once it is finished. Grandchild will naturally soon have the unicorn hanging in her nursery. I am very excited about my Unicorn painting and look forward to adding it to my collection of portrait painting for kids on my website. It has yet to have stenciled texture and glitter and or metallic paint enhancements added.
