I have loved animals for as log as I can remember. All the way through school all I wanted to be when I grew up was a Vet so that I could help animals in pain.
One of the hardest things I have ever had to do in life was take our beloved cat “Frisky” to the vet because he had kidney failure. The last thing I remember was the vet carrying him away while he stretched his paws out to me. It was devastating.
Animals, particularly dogs are so loyal to their owners and love them unconditionally. There are some very wicked humans on this planet who are very cruel to animals.
So every artwork and pet portrait commission I produce has been created with love, care and deep feeling. Being of exuberant character I love embellishing my artworks with texture, glitter, gold leaf and colour which gives them that unique “Wow” factor.
Don't feed flowers to your pet - dogs and cats though, as some flowers are poisonous and highly toxic. We once had a cat who couldn't resist jumping up onto the kitchen bench to have a good munch on freshly bought shallots. Goodness knows why? He must have loved the smell! Shallots may be toxic to cats though so we had to take them away from him. I know shallots are not flowers.!! :)
It is only very recently that I learned of the existence of Pygmy Possums. I had no idea that a possum so small existed.
There is a Banksia plant called a Pygmy Possum because it is a dwarf version of of the ‘ Old Man Banksia’ which is featured in the children’s book Possum Magic by Australian Author May Gibbs.
Most people consider the Unicorn to be a mythical creature which looks like a magnificent horse with a horn protruding from its forehead. However the Unicorn is a mythological creature which has been tied to Scotland as a national symbol for centuries and is depicted on the coat of arms of both Scotland and England.
The Unicorn dates back to ancient civilizations including Babylon and Indus as well as Persia, India, Greece and Egypt. It was said to have magical qualities and was considered the symbol of purity, innocence, chivalry, pride and boldness in Scotland’s Celtic mythology. There are also tales that Unicorn horns could purify poisoned water and had healing powers.
It’s a belief of mine that we should live every moment of our lives with fun, laughter, and joy. Some would say live life with passion!
Portraits That Bite offers to share passion with you through stunning colourful Australian Flora and Fauna paintings and Custom Pet Portraits.
Jacarandas, not Australian natives, flower in October in Brisbane Australia where I live, and they are absolutely beautiful creating huge umbrellas of soft purply blue and dropping blooms to the ground below creating a gorgeous carpet of colour. Before they finish flowering, I plan on wearing my new Jacaranda coloured Cycling jersey and laying down amidst the carpet of blooms to get a photo. (Watch this space as the joyful but crazy photo is coming.) Awesome!! Yay!!
Having learned that I should be using the words Fine Art Reproductions instead of Prints I have spent a great deal of time this week going through my whole website making required changes.
Can’t wait to get back to my easel to splash a bit of colourful paint around and stencil a bit of exciting texture. I want my wildlife creatures to growl at you out of my paintings.
